When does the warrant expire?


6 years

A warrant of control expires after 6 years from the date of issue.[1]

A liability order for unpaid council tax, business rates (non-domestic rates) and child support expires after 6 years from the date of issue.[2]

When bailiffs are instructed to enforce payment for a warrant of control or a liability order, the debtor must be given a Notice of Enforcement,[3] which expires after 12 months from the date of issue.[4]

A writ of control issued in the High Court expires after a period of 12 months.[5]

When these time limits expire, the bailiff may not take control of goods, unless the bailiff applies to the court to extend the 12 month limit.[6][7]
