How can I get a copy of the warrant from the warrant number?

There is no such thing as a warrant number

A warrant is a warrant of control and it can be issued for an unpaid magistrate's court fine,[1] an unpaid county court judgment,[2] or an unpaid traffic contravention debt.[3]

If the warrant of control is for an unpaid court fine, you can ask the sentencing court for a copy, or you can ask the bailiff, because he is required by law to show evidence of his authority to enter premises, to the debtor and any person who appears to him to be in charge of the premises being attended, either before he attends, or while he is there.[4]

If the warrant is for an unpaid traffic contravention debt, then call the Traffic Enforcement Centre (TEC) on 0300 123 1059 with the Penalty Charge Notice Number, then press 4 to skip the robot, and when you get a call-centre agent, give the PCN number and give the address on your vehicle V5 in the security check, and they can give you a copy of the warrant of control.

You can give any postcode you like in the security check, provided it is a valid one with Royal Mail, the TEC will send you a copy of the warrant with that address on it, even if you did not live at that address on the date they issued the warrant.

If the debt is a county court judgment, the county court that ordered the judgment can give you a copy of the warrant of control, but judgments over £600 are transferred up to the High Court for enforcement,[5] and the enforcement power is a writ of control.

Council tax arrears are enforced by a liability order.[6]
