Bailiffs told me they put a GPS tracker on my vehicle. What can I do?

Call 999

If a bailiff has told you he has put a tracker on your vehicle, or you have found an Air Tag or a Smart Tag on your vehicle, then call the police on 999. The bailiff commits an offence.[1]

If you suspect your vehicle has a tracker concealed on it, then search behind the number plates, under the vehicle and mudflaps. Take it to a hand car wash that uses pressure washers and ask them to thoroughly clean the underside of the vehicle and in the doors, the boot, the base of the windscreen and the bonnet apertures.

If an Air Tag is found or falls off the vehicle during the jet wash, then hand it in to police.

If you still have the bailiffs' threat on a document or a text message, then consider having an electronic bug sweeper go over your vehicle. They detect electromagnetic signals similar to mobile phones and radio transmitters. You can recover the cost of the electronic vehicle sweep from the council or creditor the bailiff is acting for.
